Black Friday Canon DSLR Deals for 2011!

As an owner of Canon 7D DSLR for over 2 years and an avid fan of Canon DSLRs in general, I can tell you which Canon DSLRs are the best deals for this Black Friday 2011.

First off, there’s several great Canon DSLRs to choose from, the Canon T2i, Canon T3i, Canon 60D, and Canon 7D.

If you are just looking to get started in DSLRs and going to upgrade later, your cheapest option is probably the Canon T2i.  There’s also Canon Ti (or T1i) but I don’t recommend it as it doesn’t do 1080P video plus it’s only $20-30 difference for the T2i.  The cost on Black Friday should be near $500 for Body only.  I highly suggest not to get the kit-lens as they are pretty crappy and you will stick them in your garage when you get a real lens.

Of course, if you are going to primarily get a DSLR for shooting film-like videos, I highly suggest the Canon 60D or the Canon T3i, which comes with a swivel-LCD great for shooting at odd angles.  Canon 60D and T3i should be priced near $600-800 on Black Friday.  T3i is a bit cheaper but the specs on 60D and T3i are nearly identical while 60D does have more AF (auto focus) points.  If you are going to be shooting mostly videos, I would go with the T3i but for photos, go with the 60D.

Now, if you want to get a bit better body build and slightly more features, the Canon 7D (which I have) offers  slightly better photos (double image sensor) with similar 1080P videos.  For starters, I don’t really recommend the Canon 7D anymore over 60D or T3i because it’s like at least $300 more.  Instead, I would suggest you to spend the extra money on good lenses then upgrade to a professional camera like the Canon 1D or 5D.

In short, look for these 3 Canon DSLR cameras if you are starting out in the DSLR world, the Canon 2Ti, Canon 3Ti, or 60D.  There’s definitely going to be some great deals on these this Black Friday and we will surely be posting them all.

As for a great starting lens, go for the 24-105mm Canon “L” Zoom lens,  this Zoom lens is about 10 times better than any kit lens and does really well for both photos and videos.  In fact, this is the lens in every pro’s videographers bag.  I have one and this is the one I use the most, very durable and shoots great photos/videos.  That should be enough to mess around until you feel the need for more lenses.

Black Friday Camera Deals for 2011!

Cameras are one of the highly coveted consumer electronics product every Black Friday and this 2011 Black Friday will be no different from any other.

Whether you are looking for a point-and-shoot camera or even a full-fledged DSLR camera, the time to buy a good camera at a killer price is definitely right around the corner, in fact only weeks away.

As we count down to the biggest camera sales event of the year, here’s some advice for you:

First, do your research and know your specs.  For example, this year I want to pick a point-and-shoot camera capable of at least 12-megapixel photos and 1080P 30fps video.

For those of you who don’t know, megapixels mean how many millions of pixels a camera can capture for a photo.  1080P is the highest standard for taking videos right now and 30fps stand for 30 frames per second.

However, you must remember that not all camera are made the same, you can have the exact same specs on two cameras, say brand A and brand B where brand A might have much better photos and videos.

Generally, you can avoid getting a crappy camera by avoiding cheap brands like AipTek.  I once owned a $150 AipTek camera (even met the founder of AipTek at a conference in Las Vegas) that could do 1080P videos but the audio was just horrible and couldn’t shoot anywhere near darkness.  That lesson cost me $150 and I bought a much better camera weeks after for $150 more.

As a rule of thumb, Canon, Nikon, Samsung, and Sony are probably the best point-and-shoot camera brands and I personally prefer Canon because they do have the best features at the best price points, followed by Nikon.  Now this can differ among people but go ask 10 people you know and I bet most of them will tell you Canon or Nikon.

For DSLR cameras, Canon and Nikon is the way to go.  Samsung and Sony have “hybrid” DSLR cameras that are smaller with different lenses but the cost of the lenses on the hybrids are still far more than getting a regular DSLR camera.   In real life testing, a rugged DSLR (Canon and Nikon) will always outform those hybrid camera.  In 3 to 5 years this might change but for now, hybrids are way over-priced and not that preferable over real DSLR cameras, which use mirror to capture photos instead of digitally processing them.

Personally, I own a Canon 7D with a bunch of different lenses and know a ton about Canon DSLRs which I will get into later this week.

Also, we will be posting more great information about cameras for Black Friday this whole month and the killer deals nearing Black Friday so don’t forget to check back!
